Wylie of Tryon, who was awarded an honorary doctor’s degree at the University of Miami this past commencement. There are two doctors Wylie in the family now. Dr. Philip was edu cated at Princeton; served on the staffs of the New Yorker, Cosmo politan Book, Paramount and Metro - Goldwyn - Mayer; served as editor, columnist and author of numerous books and stories that appear regularly in Red Book, Sat 2S|ay Evening Post and other ^^azines. Since moving to Florida he has become a leader in civic affairs as chairman of the Dade County Defense Council, president of the Conservation Council, vice president of International Game Fish Association, and member of the boards of various other or ganizations .... Reports state that Mr. and Mrs. Richard Irwin, nee Margaret Sprague, are par ents of a daughter, born a few days ago. Grandmother Sprague was not at home for confirmation. . . . . Good to know that Polk County citizens are now beginning to be listed as donors of gallons of blood, representing eight trips to the blood bank. Robertson will be in charge of the Tryon Rotary Cluo program Friday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall and will present as his speaker, his house guest, Frank Millikin, vice-president of the Na tional Lead Co., of New York City, who is in charge of the mining of titanium, the mineral used in so many things, especially paint. Koons Celebrate Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. W. Earle Koon celebrated their silver wedding an niversary Sunday, June 15th, with a reception at their home on the Asheville Highway. - Mixed arrangements of summer flowers and white glads were used throughout the home. Greeting the guests at the door were Miss Pamelia Koon, only daughter of the Koons, and John G. Landrum Jr., Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Koon and Mr. Koon’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Koon of Spartanburg. Miss Inez Koon, Mrs. Harold Kattmann of Spar tanburg were in charge of the gift room. Serving and entertaining in the dining room were Mrs. Mike Revels, Mrs. George Mullis, Mrs. F. M. Littlefield, Mrs. Earl Shear er of Greenville and Miss Eliza beth Gregory of Spartanburg. The stable was overlaid with a hand embroidered lace cloth, gift of Mrs. Koon's mother, Mrs. Pray tor, centered with an arrangement of white carnations and gysophilia in a silver container, heirloom of the Koon family, flanked with silver candelabra embedded in English ivy.
